Partnerships

Partnerships amplify our impact
Oregon Sea Grant works across institutional and geographic boundaries to collaborate with individuals, agencies and non-governmental organizations which share our interests in ocean and coastal science, education and public engagement.
Our program was built on the foundation of a state-federal partnership. We continue to be successful in part because of our longstanding partnerships. - OSG Strategic Plan
We choose partners who expand our range of talents, capabilities, and resources to address issues and opportunities that could not be addressed by any one organization alone. We also invest in research and projects with collaborative approaches that will build new partnerships and grow existing ones. We recognize that neither ecosystem functioning nor economies respect political boundaries and that some research and management needs can be addressed effectively only through a regional approach.
Among our partners:
- The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and its National Sea Grant Program, our parent programs
- Regional and intergovernmental collaborators, including the West Coast Governors' Agreement on Ocean Health
- Other state Sea Grant programs, including recent major collaborative efforts with:
- Federal research funders and collaborating agencies, including:
- Oregon's institutions of higher education, including:
- Oregon State University (our home port), its Research Office and its Marine Council and its Cooperative Institute for Oceanographic Satellite Studies
- The University of Oregon
- Oregon Health and Science University
- Portland State University
- Western Oregon University
- Eastern Oregon University
- Oregon Coast Community College
- Numerous coastal research facilities, including:
- The OSU Hatfield Marine Science Center and Coastal Oregon Marine Experiment Station in Newport
- The OSU Seafood Laboratory in Astoria
- Oregon Institute of Marine Biology in Charleston
- South Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve near Coos Bay
- The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife and NOAA research laboratories in Newport
- Additional state agency partners and collaborators include:
- Nonprofit and non-governmental collaborators and multi-agency partners, large and small, include:
These are just some of the many organizations with which Sea Grant collaborates for short- or long-term projects.
