MISSION AND IMMEDIATE TASKS FOR COMMITTEES
- Nomination
- Mission – as directed by the EXCOM recruit, screen, hold elections
and tally elections for Assembly officers.
- Immediate Tasks – {Note: Bylaws changes on terms of service and
EXCOM make up should be approved before final nominees are assembled for
the 2006 term elections}
- Identify EXCOM leadership terms expiring this year.
- Solicit at least two candidates for each vacant position.
- Seek candidate nominations from list serv.
- Verify candidates will serve if elected.
- Assemble short background and interest on each candidate.
- Develop election packet for distribution to Assembly membership
- Conduct elections in November through e-mail ballot.
- Report election results to Chair-elect as soon as available following
election.
- Awards
- Mission –as directed by the EXCOM conduct the nomination and
selection process for the Wick Award, Superior Outreach Programming Award
and other Awards that may be developed by the Assembly.
- Immediate Tasks –
- Develop nomination packet for the Wick Award.
- Solicit nominations for the Wick Award in Administration and in
Programming.
- Review the nominations and select the winners.
- Submit selection results to EXCOM for validation.
- Arrange for awards and make presentation at Assembly meeting in
2006.
- Beltway Brown Bag
- Mission -- as directed by the EXCOM, make recommendations for the organization,
timing, theme and principal headliners in accordance with the guidelines
for conducting the Beltway Brown Bag initiative.
- Immediate Tasks –
- Plan and conduct BBB 5.
- Plan addition BBBs as opportunity is available during the year.
- Follow the guidelines for the BBB and submit revisions to the EXCOM
as needed.
- Education & Professional Development
- Mission – as directed by the EXCOM, oversee the organization
and conduct of the Sea Grant Academy and other such professional development
opportunities that may be suitable for Sea Grant extension staff.
- Immediate Tasks –
- Oversee the conduct of Phase II of the Sea Grant Academy
- Work with the NSGO to develop a proposal for establishing support
funding the Sea Grant Academy and a larger Sea Grant Institute.
- Work with leadership of the SGA to utilize the 501(c)(3) organizational
structure of the SGA to serve as an umbrella for submission of a proposal
on the Sea Grant Academy/Institute.
- Establish, with the leadership of SGA, an unique account for use
by the Assembly in the management and conduct of the Sea Grant Academy/Institute.
- Manage any grant or donation received for the purposes of professional
development.
- Meeting Planning –
- Mission – as directed by the EXCOM, plan, organize and implement
annual meetings of the Assembly either independently or in conjunction
with Sea Grant Week.
- Immediate Tasks –
- Work with the staff of the Puerto Rico Sea Grant Program to organize
and host a meeting of the Assembly in 2006.
- Work with other elements of the Sea Grant network for possible
joint meeting arrangements in 2006.
- Solicit input for the 2006 Assembly meeting theme and program.
- Establish program and invite speakers in support of theme and objectives
of the 2006 Assembly meeting.
- Coordinate logistics and activities for the 2006 meeting with the
Puerto Rico Sea Grant Program.
- Bylaws Review
- Mission – as directed by the EXCOM, maintain the bylaws of the
Assembly and recommend revisions of the bylaws as may be required.
- Immediate Tasks
- Prepare amendments to Assembly Bylaws, based on input from the EXCOM,
reflecting policy changes approved at the Assembly meeting during
Sea Grant Week 05.
- Submit amendments to the EXCOM for full membership review and comment.
- Consider comments received from membership and revise proposed
bylaw amendments as necessary.
- Submit revised amendments to the EXCOM for final review and submission
to membership for approval through an e-mail vote with proper notification.
- Make revisions to bylaws following successful amendment vote.
- Review bylaws for other modifications as needed and submit to the
EXCOM for consideration at the 2006 Assembly meeting.
- Fisheries Extension –
- Mission -- Develop a national identity for Sea Grant fisheries extension
- Immediate Tasks –
- Provide policy guidance on fisheries extension to NSGO.
- Provide regional and national coordination and leadership of fisheries
extension efforts.
- Develop visible outcomes of FEE (rounds 1&2) projects (impacts,
accountability).
- Represent Sea Grant Extension (SGE) to national and regional partners.
- Educate external partners on national fisheries issues and SGE's
abilities to address the issues.
- Create/maintain partnerships with NMFS, US Fish and Wildlife Service,
Great Lakes Fishery Commission, AFS-Extension ad hoc group, Regional
Fisheries Management Councils, and other state and regional management
agencies.
- Serve as a ‘clearing house' for fisheries outreach,
communication and education issues and as an information ‘portal'
at the regional level.
- Build/maintain links to the Sea Grant "triad"(communications,
education, research) concerning fisheries issues.
- Provide annual report on regional fisheries extension programming,
including FTE's.
- Represent fisheries extension on Fisheries Theme Team
