A science writer by profession, Joe Cone has been with Oregon Sea Grant since 1983, and has written and edited books, shot and edited movies and photographs, designed graphics, and authored DVDs. As communications leader, he serves as the program's primary contact for news media queries, videography, and special project requests.

Projects and areas of interest include: Sea Grant video production; use of new technology to communicate about science; the history and sociology of the Northwest salmon crisis.

Projects include: Celilo Falls and the Remaking of the Columbia River; Wave Energy; Fire Under the Sea

Rick Cooper came to Sea Grant in 2001 after nine years with OSU Extension and Experiment Station Communications.

Rick's main area of responsibility is publication editing and design; he also manages our photo database and produces special print projects ranging from bookmarks and posters to calendars and our in-house newsletter, Inside Oregon Sea Grant. In addition, he composes original scores for our videos and DVDs.

Projects include: Going with the Flow: Understanding Effects of Land Management on Rivers, Floods, and Floodplains, An Investment in Trust: Communication in the Commercial Fishing and Fisheries Management Communities, music for Wave Power video.

Patricia Andersson comes to Oregon Sea Grant with more than 25 years of experience as a graphic designer, from owning her own design business to teaching graphic design at UC Santa Cruz Extension. Introduced to Sea Grant as the design contractor for our 2007 program brochure, she considers her love for the water and environmental awareness a perfect fit for the new Sea Grant position.

With a background including 20 years in print journalism and a sideline as a documentary film script writer, Pat Kight joined the Sea Grant team as science writer 1993.

When the Web came on the scene, she assumed responsibility for the program's first, rudimentary Web site. Over time, as digital information has become increasingly important to telling Sea Grant's story, the Web has become her major responsibility, along with occasional writing projects. She also manages Sea Grant's electronic mailing lists, and is the person to contact about special Web projects.

Cindy Newberry is responsible for distributing our publications, videos and DVDs: Filling orders, answering queries and managing our online store. She generally supervises one or more student assistants. In addition, she creates and distributes publication catalogues and announcements, serves as liaison to the National Sea Grant Library and is part of the support staff team for the Sea Grant program office at OSU. She has served on the campus Mentoring and Networking Committee and was recognized in 2002 for outstanding service to the OSU community.
