Communications
Getting research-based information to people who can use it: that's the mission of Oregon Sea Grant Communications. Using every tool at our disposal - print, video, the World Wide Web - we work to inform the public, near and far, about important issues, fascinating facts, and scientific discoveries that affect the oceans, the coast, and the creatures and people who depend on them.
The Communications staff also supports researchers, extension faculty, the HMSC Visitor Center, and program leaders in meeting Sea Grant's mission. We frequently collaborate with state and federal partners, and other Sea Grant programs around the country on books, videos, and other projects to benefit the public.
Among our many roles, we:
- Produce and distribute more than 10,000 books, brochures and fact sheets on ocean and coastal themes each year.
- Produce short videos, many which have won national awards and been aired on public television.
- Create and maintain a number of marine science and education sites
- Assist print and broadcast media with information and contacts about current ocean and coastal issues
- Provides science-based information to assist the university in advancing its mission
- Assist Sea Grant supported research and outreach faculty with editing, publishing, digital media, photography, media relations, and other communication services.
