Inquiring minds want to know if readers prefer this to plain e-mail
Dear Sea Granters: Yes, we can keep on the same road we’ve been on, going in the same old way. Maybe just a plain b/w e-mail is all you really want from Sea Grant Communications by way of a quarterly report. But maybe you see better in color and when there’s a little life on the page. You tell me. Joe joe.cone@oregonstate.edu joe.cone@oregonstate.edu
FYI: Model Releases
A friendly reminder: OSU and Oregon Sea Grant policy is that photographs that show recognizable individuals require a “model release” signed by that individual or a child’s guardian. The practice of obtaining someone’s permission is standard and really just based on common courtesy. (You wouldn’t want to be surprised by seeing your picture in a public setting, would you?)
Procedurally, you save the signed form and provide Communications a copy if you give us rights to the photo. Why not go now and get a copy of our form?

SANDY RIDLINGTON BIDS FAREWELL, SORT OF (THE REST OF US KEEP ON WORKING)
After a quarter-century with Oregon Sea Grant, Sandy, our managing editor, certainly deserved to retire at the end of 2006. Fortunately for us, we’ve managed to persuade her to assist us during a transitional period. Most editing projects in process are now in Rick Cooper’s capable hands, but those hands are really full, and we’re waiting for approval to begin the search for a new half-time graphic designer to pick up the layout and design duties that Rick and Sandy have previously done.

WEBMASTER KIGHT SETS UP BLOG FOR BILL HANSHUMAKER’S ANTARCTIC REPORTS
Blogs, like every other communication method, are tools, with particular strengths and limitations. A journal of some unique event is one good use. Readers could sign up to receive RSS updates as Pat added Bill’s content. There’s Bill Hanshumaker himself. The page entries provide Bill’s narrative and insights and some unique photographs. This blog has attracted interest also from other SG programs, who see a good deal of potential in the form. Attractive graphic design definitely aids content.
