Kira Treibergs

Program: Neil Richmond Award (2012)

Kira Treibergs received the award as a Master's student in Richard Emlet's lab at the University of Oregon's Oregon Institute of Marine Biology in Charleston, OR.  She has a passion for marine invertebrates, with a focus on colonial organisms, particularly bryozoans.  For her thesis, she studied the larval settlement and growth of a non-indigenous bryozoan, Schizoporella japonica, and the development and physiological tolerances of fouling community organisms in the South Slough Estuary.  In the future she hopes to work as a college professor, researching and teaching field biology courses. After completing her scholarship, she pursued a PhD with Bob Woollacott at Harvard University, continuing her studies of colonial marine organisms.
