Programs: John D. Knauss Marine Policy Fellowship (2016), Oregon Sea Grant Summer Scholar (2012)

Assignment:

Melissa Errend is serving her Knauss fellowship as a Legislative Fellow in U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell’s office. As a 2012 Summer Scholar, she worked with Oregon Sea Grant on marine science and policy event planning. She helped plan the Heceta Head Coastal Conferences and other events such as a Marine Economics workshop.

Education:

Melissa completed her B.S. in Marine Biology in 2012 and her M.S. in Marine Resource Management in 2015, both at Oregon State University.

Professional and Research Interests:

Melissa is committed to developing an interdisciplinary fluency to inform effective and innovative coastal management. Her graduate research combined economic and ecological theory in a framework for improving data-limited ecosystem service assessments. Her research applied this framework to models which link fisheries production to habitats that fishery species rely on for food and refuge.
