Oregon Water Resources Department

Sea Grant Fellowship Opportunity

The Water Resources Department, as part of a broad effort supported by the Water Resources Commission, Governor's Office, other state agencies, and the Oregon Legislature, is working to develop an integrated water resources strategy for the state. Oregon is one of two western states without an articulated water supply plan, and the Department and its stakeholders believe now is the time to develop one. With water supplies already scarce in parts of the state, the Department foresees additional pressure placed on existing surface water and ground water supplies because of increased population projections and precipitation changes predicted by climate change models.

The Department seeks an Oregon Sea Grant Fellow to help Department staff develop an integrated water resources strategy that takes into account water quantity, quality, and ecosystem needs.

The 2009-2010 workplan will include ongoing communication with stakeholders, other state agencies, and policymakers, related to the development of long-term visions/goals, issue areas, and program benchmarks.

This Fellowship requires polished inter-personal skills and will have responsibility for written materials, website surveys and postings, and other verbal and electronic communications.

Work products will include an initial progress report to the 2011 Legislature, with the full, first edition of an integrated water resources strategy to follow.
