Senior undergraduates and graduate students considering a career in science writing, video production, or other means of communicating science to non-specialist audiences are invited to apply for an exciting new internship.
The Sea Grant Science Communication Intern will focus on science writing or multimedia production at Oregon Sea Grant Communications, working in a professional office dedicated to communicating science to non-specialists. The intern will develop print, video or audio projects under the supervision of the director of Sea Grant Communications, Joseph Cone. (Cone is an award-winning science writer, the author of two books, and the producer of more than two dozen videos and hundreds of radio and print news and feature stories.) The intern will also interact with other Communications staff and will participate in staff meetings and selected departmental projects.
The internship is intended for students who are considering a career
which focuses on science writing, video production, or other
means of communicating science to non-specialist audiences.
The start date and duration of this internship are flexible depending on the interests and availability of the selected student and will be determined after the intern is selected.
Who May Apply
Oregon State University Graduate students or Undergraduate students who will hold Senior Status in Fall term 2006 may apply. Students from any major or field of study are welcome to apply. Students should have some experience and a significant interest in science writing, video production, or other means of communication science to non-specialist audiences, including the web.
Internship Award
In-state undergraduate or graduate tuition will be paid, as will an hourly wage of $10/ hour (graduate students) or $8.50/hour (undergraduate students) up to $500/ month.
