Program: 2015 Summer Scholars Program Coordinator Fellow
Assignment: A 2013 fellow in our Summer Scholars program, Sarah returned to help coordinate the 2015 program, which places undergraduates from all over the country in summer positions with natural resource agencies, labs and programs on the Oregon Coast. As a 2013 Scholar, Sarah worked in Newport for the US Department of Agriculture looking at fish and invertebrate use of estuarine habitats, especially in native as compared to non-native seagrasses. She used mounted GoPro cameras to record species in Yaquina Bay, as well as Willapa Bay, WA. She continues to work with the lab on the video analysis so the results can be summarized in a peer-reviewed publication.
Education: Sarah received a B.S. in Biology with the marine option from Oregon State University in 2014. She is expects to start a masters' degree program in California this fall.
Professional and Research Interests: She loves scientific diving, and has been most involved with the monitoring of Oregon marine reserves with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife. She just completed a three month dive internship at the Oregon Coast Aquarium, sparking her interest in education. In graduate school, she wants to research the ecology of fish populations off the California coast.
