NOAA Sea Grant and the NOAA Fisheries Office of Aquaculture have announced two new aquaculture funding opportunities (note: the first one has been updated since the initial announcement on Dec. 14, 2017):
1. The 2018 Ocean, Coastal and Great Lakes National Aquaculture Initiative: The National Sea Grant Office (NSGO) welcomes proposals to advance aquaculture research, address barriers to aquaculture and expand aquaculture production. Depending on appropriations, the NSGO expects to have available a total of $7,000,000 to $11,500,000 across fiscal years 2018, 2019 and 2020 as part of the Initiative.
The FY 2018 NOAA Sea Grant aquaculture federal funding opportunity is available via grants.gov, opportunity NOAA-OAR-SG-2018-2005489. Additional details, such as how to submit your application to Oregon Sea Grant, are available here.
Proposals are due to Oregon Sea Grant by 5 pm PST on March 2, 2018. Investigators intending to apply through Oregon Sea Grant should contact Oregon Sea Grant Director, Shelby Walker, in early January to discuss their proposal. Proposals will be submitted via eSeaGrant.
2. Sustainable aquatic farming techniques and regional business practices: NOAA Fisheries Office of Aquaculture, in cooperation with the Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission, is advertising a grant to fund pilot projects focusing on sustainable aquatic farming techniques and regional business practices.
Total Available Funds: $450,000
Single-Project Ceiling: $100,000
Single-Project Floor: $50,000
Due Date: February 1, 2018
Exceptions: Federal agencies (including regional fishery management councils) cannot apply.
