Weird Science: Family Home School Day

Friday, October 20, 2017, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm

Science can be pretty strange - especially in the ocean! Families will come explore the bizarre habitats and animals of the ocean and learn how scientists do research in extreme environments.

HMSC Visitor Center hours

Winter hours are currently in effect at the HMSC Visitor Center.
It is open Thursday through Monday from 10 am to 4 pm (closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays).

As of Memorial Day, May 28, the Visitor Center will be open from 10 am to 5 pm daily. (Closed Thanksgiving Day, December 25, and January 1).

HMSC Visitor Center to close for solar eclipse on Aug. 21

The Hatfield Marine Science Center's Visitor Center in Newport will be closed on Aug. 21 for the total solar eclipse.

According to Astronomy Magazine, the eclipse's first point of contact in the Continental U.S. will occur at 10:15:56 that morning at Government Point, Oregon (see map below).

The Lincoln County Extension office in Newport, Oregon, invites applicants for an intermittent temp (approximately 3-5 hours per week) Education Program Assistant 1 position. This position will be responsible for delivering fisheries educational programs to the public in the form of dock walks and “Shop at the Dock.” These programs educate the public on where their seafood comes from, how our local fisheries are managed, and how to purchase high-quality seafood. The role of this position is to assist in delivering these programs in a seasonal capacity, during summer.
