David Landkamer is Oregon Sea Grant's new Extension Aquaculture specialist, working to address the need for engagement and extension in Oregon's shellfish and other potential aquaculture industries. David’s background includes work as an Interpretive Exhibit Evaluation Consultant for the National Park Service, an Aquaculture Training Expert for Guam’s Department of Commerce, and an Assistant Professor/Aquaculture Extension Specialist for the University of Minnesota Sea Grant and Minnesota Extension Service. He holds a Master’s degree in aquaculture extension from Oregon State University, and a second masters and an EdD in non-formal educational leadership and evaluation from Northern Arizona University.
Projects/Specialties: 

The new position is intended to:

  • Address the need for engagement and extension in the shellfish and other potential aquaculture industries in Oregon and the region
  • Network and form partnerships at the state, regional, or national level
  • Help address concerns with disease and ocean acidification, broodstock tracking, and monitoring for invasive species
  • Work with regulatory agencies to help growers prepare for shellfish closures and altered water quality events
  • Help mediate differences between shellfish producers and sectors influencing freshwater quality in coastal watersheds
  • Assist producers working outside of leased tidelands to address their research and education needs
  • Assist in efforts to understand the commercial and consumer environment for shellfish producers
