Oregon Sea Grant

Heidi Schmoock coordinates the NSF-funded Communicating Ocean Sciences to Informal Audiences Educators Network, based at OSU and the HMSC Visitor Center. In that capacity, she plans and delivers professional development for informal educators and scientists, and co-teaches the COSIA course at Cal Poly Tech, San Luis Obispo. Heidi is also working to support informal science educators of the central California coast through networking, professional development, and opportunities to engage with ocean scientists. Heidi's work on the learning experiences of bilingual families at HMSC was the basis of her Master's Degree thesis in Environmental Sciences. She went on to complete several special projects working to develop and update the Sea Grant K-12 marine education curriculum at the HMSC, as well as the volunteer training program for the Oregon Coast Aquarium.
