Mark Farley manages the Sea Grant-run Visitor Center at OSU's Hatfield Marine Science Center in Newport, where he is responsible for developing technology for exhibits, multimedia, the Free-Choice Learning Lab and other special projects. Mark is a veteran developer of interactive media and software for science, education and business.
Projects/Specialties:
  • Interactive exhibit design, testing, implementation and evaluation via the Free-Choice Learning Lab
  • Development of the wildly popular OctoCam, a live, streaming Webcam view of the HMSC Visitor Center's Giant Pacific Octopus. The project's success prompted development of a ScienceCam program to stream live marine science presentations and demonstrations to school classrooms around the US.
  • Smart phone applications as tools for education and outreach. Mark developed OSU's first iPhone app, Paddle Beaver Creek, an interactive guide to the historic and natural features of a popular central coast kayak and canoe route. Additional apps are under development.
  • Producing short, informative videos for Oregon Sea Grant's YouTube channel
