The red swamp crayfish is dark red in color and has raised red spots over the body and claws. The native range of red swamp crayfish is along the Gulf Coast from northern Mexico to the Florida panhandle, and inland, to southern Illinois and Ohio. It has been also introduced to other places in the US, as well as other continents such as Asia and Europe. It prefers warm fresh water, such as slowly-flowing rivers, marshes, reservoirs, irrigation systems and rice farms, and it has caused serious impacts worldwide.
