This Quest begins at the Yaquina Pacific Railroad Historical Society Museum located at 100 NW A Street in Toledo, Oregon. Park your car in the YPRHS Museum lot which is shared with the Toledo Post Office (147 NW 1st St.). Begin your Quest in front of “One Spot”, a 1922 Baldwin Steam Locomotive which is both a prominent and permanent display at the YPRHS Museum. When the Museum is open, the cab access structure is open to the public and allows you to check out the restored interior of the 100-year-old locomotive. The Toledo Quest will showcase a milieu of settings all within the City of Toledo. Enjoy the wildlife viewing along the water’s edge in the waterfront park area, explore the Arts District and colorful murals around town, don’t forget to support small businesses on Main Street, and witness all the benefits of being a Toledo citizen at our public library, pool, community boathouse, and our abundance of public parks. This Quest is on city sidewalks and paved footpaths and will take about 45 minutes to complete. You will encounter a steep uphill and downhill that may be difficult for those in wheelchairs and with strollers. We encourage participants to wear comfortable walking shoes and breathable clothing. Participants are also encouraged to utilize marked crosswalks wherever possible. There are two intersections that can be hazardous to reckless pedestrians –PLEASE USE CAUTION AT ALL STREET CROSSINGS. Public restrooms can be found at the boat dock near the YPRHS museum and on Main Street at City Hall.

Follow the directions and collect the clues to fill the numbered spaces at the end. When you finish your journey, the words you spell will help you find the hidden Quest Box. When you find the box, please sign the log book and let us know what you thought of this Quest. Stamp your page as proof of your accomplishment, and then put the box back in its hiding place for the next person to find. Keep the location of the clues and box a secret so the activity can remain fun for all. Enjoy!

LET'S BEGIN...

Start at the YPRHS museum.

Look in front of “One Spot” where you will see
A railroad crossing sign as plain as can be.
The sign, a crossbuck, shaped like an X
Is found where trains and roads intersect.

Above the X is a sign of white
Which tells the # of tracks for this site.
Look at the word below the number 3.
The first vowel in the word is the one to see.

Write that letter in the clue #11 space
Before moving on to the next place.

Walk the path south to the marina and find the entrance ramp
To the transient boat tie-up docks – don’t be surprised if they’re damp!
The Port of Toledo’s sign holds clue #1.
It’s the first letter of the fifth word on the sign, what fun.

Near the ramp, proceed on the path made of brick.
To your right you’ll see boats, which one would you pick?
From bricks to wooden planks, keep going, don’t stop.
Keep going until you get to the crosswalk.

Cross the tracks and the road, then turn left (which is North).
On what street will you walk when you continue forth?
It has trees and buildings and sidewalk terrain.
This primary road is called SW _______.

Take the last letter in the street’s name
and write it in the clue 5 frame.

Go north along Main to a local government building’s location.
You’ll know you’re there because of its square art deco presentation.
The first letters of each word on the building you see
Are clue #10 and clue #3, respectively.

Turn around, walk south, get ready to climb.
Head uphill on 1st Street, it’s leg muscle time!
Up to Alder Street, Toledo’s District of Arts.
For beautiful art ‘tis a good place to start!

The short brown sign at 1st and Alder holds your next clue.
Clue 12 is the second letter in the sign’s first word. Whew!

To go north on Alder Street, cross with care to a big intersection.
Then turn left on Hwy 20 to get to the next section.
You’ll walk a while down the hill, from map one to map two.
Stop at “A” Street to read how to find your next clue.

Cross the street on your right.
Make sure to do it at the light!
Look on the corner for a blue sign.
It’s pointing back to the starting line.

The last letter in the first word on the sign is clue #6.

On A Street head north to the pool and library.
For swimming and reading these spots are necessary.

Walk up the driveway and turn toward the pool.
You’re looking for big words on this place that keeps you cool.
The second letter of the second word is where you should wait.
Record that letter in space #8.

Turn around toward the library and walk close toward the door.
There’s a sign on the building that you should explore.
See a dog and red and white in between.
The first letter on the sign is clue #13.

Go back down the driveway to A street once more.
Take a left to head south and make sure to look for
A special parking lot for official modes of transport.
A square blue sign with white writing has a clue so you don’t fall short.

The 4th letter in the first word on the sign is clue #4.

Your next clue is close, so don’t go far!
Look for a sign that involves parking your car.
At the bottom of the sign is a two-word phrase.
The fifth letter of the first word goes in the clue 9 place.

Cross Hwy 20 at the light and walk downhill on NW A Street.
You’ll go past the playing field where many friends meet.
On the right is a bank which faces a building where people can buy stamps and mail a letter.
And that building gives you a clue that couldn’t be better.

Clue 2 is the last letter of the color of the roof.

You’re nearly at the end of the Quest, so let’s enjoy the trip.
Follow NW A street south back to the Railroad Museum with a hop and a skip.

Go to the large log, near the tall flagpole.
Reading the display instructions will make the puzzle whole.
There are words here that tell you what to do.
The first letter of the three words is your #7 clue.

Hooray, you’ve found all the clues!
The letters now tell you where to look
For a message that will lead you to
A hidden box, stamp, and logbook.
