Program - OSG Summer Scholars

Assignment - As a 2017 Summer Scholar, Zach be working with the marine reserves program in the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW). Specifically, he will be studying invertebrates and the recruitment of juvenile fishes in Oregon's marine reserves.

Education - Zach graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 2017 with a degree in Ecology and Evolution, and minors in Chemistry and Sociology. As part of his undergraduate career, Zach studied marine ecology at the Universidad San Francisco de Quito in Ecuador and the Galápagos Islands.

Professional and research interests - Zach would like to focus on understanding how society and the environment intersect, and how scientific data is used to inform policy decisions. Additionally, he is interested in ecological interactions and how seemingly small changes at one trophic level can have rippling effects throughout multiple levels. He intends to spend a gap year gaining experience in the field before attending graduate school to study ecology or environmental science.
