Leif Rasmusson

Program: Robert E. Malouf Marine Studies Scholarship

Assignment: Leif studied how hydrodynamics influence the dispersal of Dungeness crab larvae by creating an individual-based coupled biophysical model. His hopes are to use this data to be able to better forecast upcoming Dungeness crab fisheries and to provide this information to fishery managers along the West Coast.

Education: Leif graduated from the University of Puget Sound in 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in Biology. After graduation, he took over as Shellfish Harvest Management Biologist for the Skokomish Indian Tribe in Washington where he managed the harvest of intertidal clams, oysters, shrimp, crab and geoduck. His scholarship was received while he was a second-year PhD student at the Oregon Institute of Marine Biology.
