Program - OSG Summer Scholars

Assignment - As a 2017 Summer Scholar, Meagan will be working with the Department of Land Conservation and Development (DLCD) - Oregon Coastal Management Program on the Oregon King Tides Photo Project to utilize photos of King Tides to address coastal management issues. She will also have the opportunity to take photographs in the field to develop the database further and explore the Oregon coast.

Education - Meagan graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in May, 2017 with a B.S. in Conservation and Resource Studies. Her area of interest was agricultural science and policy in which she studied the social and environmental implications of the global food system. In spring 2016 Meagan lived with an Italian family in Florence for a semester and studied the history of Italian food and culture.

Professional and research interests - During her undergraduate career, Meagan was involved in two research projects that allowed her to study diverse environmental issues. Her first project was in conjunction with the Natural Resources Defense Council and Berkeley Energy & Resources Group and quantified food waste in three major American cities. Her second project focused on public and environmental health degradation as a result of expansion in the ready-made garment industry in Bangladesh. In September, 2017 she will return to California with plans to combine her interests in sustainable agriculture and coastal habitat protection through community outreach.
