State of the Coast Code of Conduct
Oregon Sea Grant is committed to providing a safe, productive, and welcoming environment for all who participate in Oregon Sea Grant events. This Code of Conduct serves as a guideline for the professional conduct of anyone attending or presenting at the State of the Coast Conference. We expect everyone to follow this Code so that all participants can fully enjoy the conference.
Expected Behavior
All participants, presenters, attendees, and venue staff are treated with respect and consideration, valuing a diversity of views and opinions.
- Be considerate, respectful, inclusive, and collaborative.
- Communicate openly with respect for others, critiquing ideas rather than individuals.
- Avoid personal attacks directed toward other attendees or venue staff.
- Discuss differences of opinions and critique ideas with respect for the viewpoints of others.
- Report suspected unacceptable behaviors directed at yourself or others to State of the Coast staff onsite or via email at [email protected].
- Be mindful of your surroundings and of your fellow participants. Alert State of the Coast staff if you notice a dangerous situation or someone in distress.
- Respect the rules and policies of the conference venue and hotels.

- Disruption of talks during sessions or any activities related to the meeting.
- Harassment, intimidation, or discrimination in any form, regardless of intent. If you are advised directly or by another party that some aspect of your speech or behavior is unwanted, then you are expected to stop engaging in such speech or behavior.
- Physical or verbal abuse of any attendee, speaker, volunteer, exhibitor, service provider, or other meeting guest.
- Demeaning, discriminatory, or harassing behavior and speech.
- Use of Inappropriate images or videos (e.g., demeaning or offensive content) in public spaces or in presentations.
- Threatening or stalking any attendee, speaker, volunteer, exhibitor, service provider, or other meeting guest.
Reporting Unacceptable Behavior
Anyone experiencing or witnessing behavior that constitutes an immediate or serious threat to public safety at State of the Coast is advised to call 911 and get them and/or yourself to safety. If you are not in immediate danger but feel that you are the subject of unacceptable behavior or have witnessed such behavior, please immediately notify a member of State of the Coast staff onsite or via email at [email protected]. Anyone requested to stop their own unacceptable behavior is expected to comply immediately. State of the Coast staff or venue staff may take any action deemed necessary and appropriate, including immediate removal from the conference without warning or refund.
